KAVACHAM

Kavacham is an ambulance service run by the PSS within the Seethanagaram Mandal area with around 25 villages as part of the medical emergency services. Started in 2010, Kavacham essentially involves a refabricated van equipped with all that is required during an emergency which includes trained paramedics, oxygen cylinders, life-saving drugs along with first aid kits. Most villages in the hinterlands are far from a hospital. During an emergency people can call a mobile phone number and within minutes resuscitation is made available.
The outreach in 2010 was 115 cases, 300 cases in 2011, 266 cases in 2012, 187 cases in 2013, 198 cases in 2014 and 26 cases as of January, 2015.
